Salinity (g/L)

The pH sensors show a small cross sensitivity to the salinity (ionic strength) of the medium. This sensitivity is strongest at low salinities and often negligible at medium to high salinities (physiological conditions and above). To compensate for this effect, the salinity [g/L] can be entered in the sensor settings. For measurements with strong fluctuations in salinity, it is recommended to update the settings periodically to acquire accurate results. In the graph below, the cross sensitivity to the salinity of the medium is shown. Between 5 and 35 g/L NaCl (90 mM to 600 mM), this effect produces an error in pH of approximately 0.02. This effect can vary slightly between pH sensors, measurement mediums and environmental conditions.
